This made me crack the FUCK up, I won't lie. ;) And yes, tampering with road signs is a very serious thing, but how can you not get the giggles when you're driving down the road and see this:

Yeah. Seriously. And then, to cap it off, when the highway patrol tried to log in to the system to change it back to whatever it was supposed to say, they found they couldn't because the hackers had reset all the passwords! Officials had to go to the manufacturer to gain access, by which time I'm betting a ton of traffic jams had been caused by people slowing down to take pics. Hehehe.

Elsewhere on the web, there was an interesting article in the New York Times about the politics of defriending on Facebook (which they refer to as "unfriending," but I personally have always preferred the former term). Apparently Burger King offered a promotion where if a person removed ten of their Facebook friends, they'd get a free sandwich, after which point BK would send the spurned friends a message saying something to the effect of, "LULZ, YOU'VE JUST BEEN DUMPED FOR A SANDWICH!!!" They had to eventually end the promotion because it turned out to be a violation of Facebook's terms of service, though. I don't frequent Facebook, as most of you probably know, but I don't think I'd go around removing people just to get a free burger. No worries, guys, y'all are safe. ;)

I will in all probability be posting fic tomorrow, but in the meantime I wanted to point my SW- and A/O-inclined friends to this lovely little Anakin/Obi-Wan vignette by [info]emavalexis. Beautiful writing, great characterization, and it is HAWT. Mmmmmm. And for the BSG crowd, there's a delightful Adama/Roslin crack!fic by the name of "Stranger Than Fiction" which I had a good giggle over earlier today. It's written by [info]mondavis and proceeds on the premise that everyone on Galactica starts shipping A/R when prompted by a fic written by an anonymous author, and eventually even Bill and Laura read it and end up shipping themselves! *grins* Well worth a look-see, if you haven't run across it already. And if you have, hey, read it again!

Aaaand I think that's about it. G'night, f-list!

This is something I've seen basically all around my f-list, but I'm giving credit to [info]trialia and [info]taragel because they posted the coolest versions of it, the versions that I'm now going to proceed to steal. :D First, I'm going to list every single thing I wrote in 2008 - shortfics, TIS chapters, ficlets, claim fics, fest fics, whatever. These will be divided by month and subdivided by fandom, and at the bottom of each month will be two numbers - a total word count for the month and a total fic count for the month. After the December fic and word totals I've put a fic total for the year and a word total for the year, and after that will be a series of questions ganked from [info]taragel about what fic I'm most proud of, my best fic, my most underappreciated fic, etc. etc.

Also, note that some fics will not show with the correct date stamp since they were re-posted to my writing community after their original posting date on this journal. This is because I prefer to link to [info]jedionpaper wherever possible - as I no longer put up fic here - but if you're really picky about making sure I've matched fics to their correct month, you can look back through [info]amidala_thrace's archive. The original posts are all still there. ;)

Now, onward!

Liz's 2008 Fic Roundup )

Apropos of nothing, I discovered to my annoyance that apparently you can't backdate journal posts in a non-personal journal (i.e. a community). Who knew? >.> This must be a recent development, however, because several communities I belong to have entries that say they were posted in the 1970s and 1980s, which is obviously impossible without backdating since it's waaaaay before LJ even existed. Anyway, my sincere apologies if you guys got spammed with a couple of fic reposts tonight. I tried to backdate them, only to be told that there was an error because users aren't allowed to backdate in communities. :( (And as I subsequently added to those posts, Deborah, you don't need to link the fics in [info]jedi_news, because they are reposts.)

YES, HERE IS THAT MUCH-VAUNTED A/O FIC I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR LIKE 40503303954603 DAYS. IT IS FINALLY FINISHED. AND YES, IT TOTES DESERVES CAPSLOCK. ;D

Title: The Promise
Author: [info]amidala_thrace
Characters/Pairings: Anakin/Obi-Wan
Word Count: 2,605
Rating: NC-17 - mmm, guysex.
Summary: Worse, the image of him stretched out on his pallet, bringing himself to satisfaction while Anakin’s dark eyes bored into him, would not vanish.
Author's Notes: This is actually a blending of two fics, neither of which would quite work separately but that go together pretty well, if I do say so myself. ;) I wrote one, realized it wouldn't be sufficient for a holiday offering, wrote the other, knew it wouldn't be either, and finally decided to fit them together on the advice of my awesomesauce beta reader. The whole thing is the longest of the holiday fics, which definitely wasn't planned, hehe. However, I daresay A/O shippers will be pleased - you'd better be, since I worked on this for over a week and practically chained myself to my laptop tonight so I could finish it up. LOL, just kidding, just kidding (it probably sucks, haha)! ;) Enjoy. And [info]gizzi1213, you can stop bugging and/or shooting me now. LOL.

Read it here @ [info]jedionpaper

(I'll be posting a 2008 fic roundup/meme-ish thing tomorrow, but right now my BSG muse is practically chewing my ear off, so I have to write some Kara/Lee before I fucking BURST. Bwah.)

Title: You
Characters/Pairings: Anakin/Obi-Wan, mentions of Padmé and Qui-Gon
Word Count: 2,742
Rating: NC-17
Summary: It was our word.
Author's Notes: This should have been posted last week, but for various reasons that were largely beyond my control, it unfortunately wasn't. Anyway, better late than never, I suppose! This is a birthday gift for my very good friend Deborah, aka [info]gizzi1213, whom I feel so privileged to have been able to get to know and chat with over the last six months or so. We've had our occasional shipping differences (*cough*Obidalarules*cough*) and we are both extremely opinionated (*cough*KaraThraceistheonetrueStarbuck*cough*) but it's all in good fun and I'm very glad to count her among my friends. The fic was partially inspired by the relationship between two characters in Lori Lansens' The Girls, and also by a particular scene in Revenge of the Sith. Deborah, this one's for you. *hugs*
